The assistance of Huawei has significantly propelled Ulanqab's progress in informatization. 


The city of Ulanqab has enhanced its collaboration with Huawei to establish an information industry demonstration park, where Huawei takes the lead, within the Chahar Economic and Technological Development Zone. As Huawei's largest cloud service data center in North China, the Ulanqab Huawei Cloud Data Center will facilitate the development of cloud computing demonstration applications such as the Ulanqab Smart City Cloud platform and education cloud platform. It will also disrupt traditional business models, enable deep integration of data interoperability and sharing for government applications, and drive forward the advancement of government and enterprise informatization.

Hoogovens® has the honor to participate in the engineering construction of Huawei Cloud Data Center project in Ulanqab, and "build" the "grassland cloud valley" to provide the necessary infrastructure for the development of cloud computing industry.

Roof features

The roof area of Huawei Cloud Data Center in Ulanqab is 8,600 square meters per building.

The project adopts a traditional portal steel frame system with a double-sloped roof, which is not particularly challenging in terms of structural design. However, the location of the project in Ulanqab presents unique challenges due to its inland position and exposure to the dry and cold Mongolian high-pressure system, resulting in extremely low temperatures. The average temperature ranges from 0 to 6 °C. Winters are characterized by cold and prolonged conditions, with average temperatures dropping below -15 °C. Consequently, the project necessitates stringent requirements for the waterproofing, thermal insulation, anti-condensation, and wind-resistant capabilities of the metal roofing system.

According to the characteristics and high requirements of the project, the professional design team of Hoogovens proposed a reasonable structure and detailed design.

Water Resistance

The structure incorporates a dual-layer waterproof system consisting of H65/400+TPO, combining rigidity and flexibility. H65 roof panels are manufactured on-site, allowing for customized production based on the specific project requirements. This eliminates the need for panel overlaps, minimizing the risk of water leakage. Additionally, the TPO secondary waterproof layer is seamlessly integrated through welded connections to ensure complete roof integrity.

Heat Preservation, Condensation Performance

The structure is made of rock wool insulation and an enhanced composite polypropylene steam insulating film, which are laid using a double-layer staggered joint technique. Additionally, the inside of several beams and secondary purlins have been treated in detail to be filled with insulation rock wool, effectively preventing any loss of insulation. Furthermore, meticulous detail treatment has been implemented to ensure optimal thermal insulation and eliminate cold bridges.

In terms of wind resistance, Hoogovens utilizes molding equipment imported from Germany to ensure high precision and stability of products. The seaming machine guarantees the finished state of the product after seaming. Based on design calculations, Hoogovens' design team added clips in the corner area of the roof, ridge, and surrounding areas of holes to strengthen the anti-wind ability
